ANDREA - a full time Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi instructor.

I fell in love with yoga over seven years ago, when I got a Nintendo DS and bought a game called Let's Yoga. From then, I began 'playing' yoga everyday, sometimes twice a day. At first, the practice was more physical for me, but after few months I started to really count on yoga to bring me a sense of calm during especially chaotic days. Soon after, I began recognizing the benefits of a regular asana and meditation practice and continued to incorporate yoga daily - not just during times of chaos. I found myself feeling more energized, more compassionate, happier, and with more awareness. Now, I teach full-time and couldn't be happier to do what I love. What began as a physical practice for strength and flexibility quickly became a lifestyle. I teach my students to take their yoga off the mat and apply the principles learned in the class to their lives outside of the studio. I do not only teach my philosophy, I live it.

108 Sun Salutations charity event

Woo hoo what a wonderful morning - with Natalie (she's an official qualified Yoga Teacher now! :) - congratulations!!) we are planning a 108 Sun Salutations charity event - how exciting!!!!! Is there anyone who would like to join us? Unfortunately it would be a Wednesday as it is my only day off and these 108SS will be mmm.... lets say... challenging :P

We are provisionally booking in three dates to do this in case the Great British weather lets us down, but hopefully the sun will shine on the first date! 22nd June - so just over 5 weeks to train! smile emoticon

Hmmm.. I need few days off..

Good morning my lovely yoga people... (it's definitely not a good morning for me tho...)

So I guess I will have to tell you something, because it affects my classes for now.

I was in pain since Tuesday. I have waited, thought everything will be fine after few days, but it was worse and worse. So yesterday my boyfriend rang like dozen clinics, even managed to book an appointment in the evening - the next date was 10th Oct :O (apologies for not being there in my evening class yesterday :( )
So he took me to London. I was nervous, panicking.. Saw the doctor and she said I have 2 options - both were mini operations - one in hospital and I would sleep during the thing, the second was that she could make it right there there under local anesthesia. I just wanted it to be over and she was so nice, she even said she can do it after her last patient, so it was decided - I went for the second option. I thought she will do it and I will be fine and happy - I didn't realise this will be the most painful thing I've ever been through and the way home was a never ending pain, too. Lucky me I had my private driver :)

So I survived the night :P I can barely walk at the moment and I can't drive for few days - I am trying to find covers for my classes - a big thanks goes to Brendan who could cover my class yesterday and an even bigger thank you for Jane to teach both Pilates and Yoga this morning.
I think the classes in Dunstable in the evening will have to be cancelled unless someone could help me out teaching them, I will ask Lucy to teach my tomorrows Hitchin classes...

I apologize for all these classes, but I guess I really have to rest for few days.

I am so lucky to have such a great boyfriend who helped me through everything, my friends were really big support for me, even when they were out partying :P Thank you all  instructors for stepping in and covering for me, even if its weekend! Thanks for all your support and I will be back soon!! :) :)

ALL changes from September :)


September 2015 is going to be the most interesting month - nearly everything changes in my life... 

I have lived with my friends more than 3 years in a beautiful big house and we used to be like a big family. Time has passed, people changed and it is time to move towards something new, better, brighter, happier :)

So I am in a process of moving to a nice flat and I will have an awesome space to practice my yoga :D 

Also, because I am teaching more and more, my time is precious and I need to plan my timetable to be the most sufficient so I can do my best all the time, in all classes :) 

I know the changes are not great for everyone, but I hope I did my best to arrange the classes so most of you can make them.

Great news regarding my timetable changes from September!! :)


Good evening everyone!! :) 

I just got a confirmation regarding of the Pure Gym Yoga class - yes, it WILL be moved to THURSDAY 8.15pm (instead of Friday)! :) I really hope you can all make it!!!!
  • I just wrote an email to HRLC manager (he was already gone when I rang) that I need to change the class to Friday 7.50pm or cancel it. Sorry ladies :( I just don't like coming home after 10pm.... 
- an update from HRLC - after receiving a kind of rude email to resign with a huge help of some of you I got an email we can try the Friday classes - no confirmation yet - I'll keep you updated
I know you like me, my classes... And I am still teaching there, because you are so lovely and I really enjoy teaching YOU!!!!! I teach there only 1 class - so if you want me still there - you better fight for me - now it's your time to show support!
  • Tiddenfoot Monday 6pm Pilates will stay as it is till further notice :P

Winter Photoshoot

Well, well well... :) 
Another adventure happened this week - a really short trip to my beautiful home country - Slovakia. 
I didn't even got time to visit my family, it was all about business 
(and, of course, having lots of fun!).





I landed to Poprad on Tuesday evening 
and my great talented photographer was already waiting for me. 
After helping me to get settled he took me to play table tennis, 
I could't believe how lucky I was!!





After that we played poker and I had to buy all yummy stuff I like 
(sweets, food, drinks, even alcohol... :P)


Boys went home and left me there alone - a biiig mistake, 
I had to force myself stay in the bed for hours, 
but I could't resist taking at least few 'selfies' :D :D 
In my world, selfie means - do it in 10s or die! :P





Next morning didn't look so promising 
for taking pictures... 








But the weather got so much better after an hour or so :) 
Lucky us (me)! 
We were driving all around the mountains all day and took lots and lots of pics, 
but one of them is just WOW!!! 
When you'll see it, you'll know which one I was talking about :P



 



We even stopped for halusky 
and went swimming and sauna in the evening :) 









And Lubos showed me how he takes 
such an amazing night pics. 
It was fascinating to watch him doing 
what he loves to do... 






...and after that we were eating and drinking again 
and talking, and talking, and talking... 







We woke up on time... 
Everything went according to the plan, the timing was perfect...
But the train was delayed 15 mins, so we went for a tea...
...and missed the train :/
So we could spend together a bit more time :P :D

he was an awesome guide 
(without him I would be lost :P ), 
a really professional photographer 
(I had such a nice time doing all the crazy poses, falling over and jumping around) 
and a great friend 
(we've talked about stuff I've never told anyone). 

I really appreciate that he spend the whole two days with me, making sure I am fed, happy, he  organised everything, I was truly impressed! :) 

I cannot wait for out next photoshoot!

I had to come back to my real life...

New upcoming adventure

I can't even believe that I booked flights to India few days ago... I never really planned to visit India. But a really nice friend of mine invited me over and I couldn't say no to her :) She is helping me with my visa, she's planning which places I should go to visit - she is an amazing person! I really can't wait to go, I am so excited and I don't really know what to expect... But it will be great - I am sure! :)

While I will be away (21st-26th Sept), there will be instructors covering the classes, here are the ones I know about:

1st Aloe DETOX

After months and months of thinking about it... Twice I even wanted to really start, but... You know how I am... I don´t rest... I do too much maybe sometimes... And I haven´t been eating properly before :(

I am teaching many, many classes per week from January, and since then (4 months) I gained 6kg - with exercising A LOT and eating NOT ENOUGH. Well, I really thought that not eating and exercising will ensure me a slimmer body, but it DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT! - unfortunatelly.

So what was I doing wrong? Hmm... I could go hours and hours without eating and with teaching and THEN I would start to eat in the evening and eat through half of the night... NOT GOOD!!!

But now I know. For few weeks now, I am trying to eat regularly. Healthy food. I spent 2 hours planning my food diary so I would eat in between the classes, but I have a BIG problem with that - it is not good to eat before yoga... And what do I do? I teach - and I love teaching - YOGA! Oh yes, when I first started to eat in the morning before the class - all wrong! My belly hurt, I felt like I am going to throw up... - not nice, plus when you teach you cannot really feel this way. But I guess I slowly got used to eating a little bit before/in between the classes and I feel much better.

And my decision to do the Detox right now? Simple... I went shopping to Primark and you know how stupid fattening mirrors they´ve got... I looked at myself and I said: NO!!! I really don´t want to look like this. And I started next morning without even having everything for the Detox - only one kind of capsules and an Aloe Vera Juice. That was it. This was the trigger.

So here I am going to write how did I feel and survived these 9 days (if I´ll make it) - day by day.


DAY 1 - I´m not liking this day, but, hey, it is only the beginning... I haven´t eaten anything just the Aloe things I can drink and water - lots of water and few teas. I was fine in the morning. I was hungry around 2pm, but the ´lunch stuff´ was good enough to get me through the day. I even felt ok in the evening. BUT - I woke up at 2am - really, really hungry :( :( :( so I drunk lots of water and tried to read Game of Thrones and eventually I fell asleep. And in the morning...

DAY 2 -...I didn´t feel so hungry when I woke up, but I felt a bit dizzy and I had a headache - just a little, and when I was teaching I didn´t feel it, but I did not feel the best. Never mind. Later I was hungrier and hungrier. Yesterday I had a relaxing day and I had only one Pilates class, but today it was different. For lunch I had a salad (lettuce, sweetcorn, olives, artichokes and cheese) instead of the Shake, because I felt like I really needed something in my stomach. And I tell you, the salad tasted so delicious! Even it was only a salad... So I survived the whole day. I know I shouldn´t weight myself, but I had to check it and I was shocked - more than a kilo down and I didn´t feel like it, probably because of all the water I drank those two days. And it´s evening and I am really hungry, but I haven´t have my last Alue Juice, yet. I´ll drink it before I will go to bed and I will hope I won´t wake up hungry in the middle of the night!

DAY 3 - Hmm - I wasn't so hungry in the morning, and I had everything according the book till lunch and after that I had half of a tiny pizza. And few hrs later a bit of veggies - not too bad - I was really hungry and then I had 2 classes, and had my last ' meal' of today... I hope I will survive the night :)

Photoshoot after a year... - success! :)

After a long long time we realized that the pictures we took almost a year ago are not good for the book, so we did another shooting today - the light was much much better and we did it at home, in a nice and warm room :) 

I know you are waiting ages for the book, but my girls are quiet busy and everything is done, the videos and pics just need to be edited and put into a book form. 

We are again one step closer to the end :)

Dnes som volala s Bev a začnem učiť už prvý decembrový týždeň v Harpers Fitness v Dunstable Leisure Centre. Potom idem na sviatky domov a od januára to tam poriadne rozbehnem! :)

About me...

I am a dynamic, inspirational yoga teacher who brings energy, humor and philosophy to every class. I realized my vision of yoga through the creation of a Yoga for Youth, a progressive, innovative non-profit program designed to meet the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of children in my home country.
I began my yoga practice with meditation, eastern philosophy and religious studies in high school and university. I then used my practice as a means of dealing with injuries and enhancing performance during my daily activities. What began as a physical practice for strength and flexibility quickly became a lifestyle. I teach my students to take their yoga off the mat and apply the principles learned in class to their lives outside of the studio. I do not only teach my philosophy, I live it. I practice and teach according to Sri BKS Iyengar’s words: “The body is the temple, the postures are the prayers.”
I am primarily a student of Krishamacharya’s yoga, as are all of my teachers. In addition to teacher trainings in the Vinyasa and Hatha traditions, I continue to study with BSY. I also received instruction from Gary Ward and Paul Harvey. Not only do I seek to expand my studies internationally but I also remain rooted in the value of what those around me have to offer and receive teachings from the Elders in my home country.
The following sentence accurately describes the philosophy and practicality of studying yoga:
“Through yoga, the impossible becomes possible. We spend so much time separating ourselves form one another. As we ascend the spine and descend the brain we become whole, integrated or One. Experiencing Oneness (yoga) is possible for all people regardless of their age, gender, skin colour and even their health. Steady practice is the key to success in yoga.”


Prvá oficiálna joga - dnes! :D





Dnes je pre mňa dosť výnimočný deň... Po prvý krát som učila jogu oficiálne. Bola som síce trošku nervózna, urobila zo dve chybičky, ale zvládla som to a snáď to bude len lepšie a lepšie :)

Chcela by som sa poďakovať Alenke (mojej šarmantnej asistentke), Adamovi (ktorý si dnes dokonca zacvičil 2x - má u mňa obrovské plus!), Linde (mojej novej jogistke) a Majke (tímovej kolegynke)! Cvičilo sa mi veľmi dobre :) 

Ďalší míľnik pre mňa bude, keď začnem učiť po anglicky, lebo to som ešte neskúsila, ale prezradím, že zajtra máme aj s Majkou, našou osobnou masérkou, interview v jednom fitnes centre, takže držte palčeky! Snáď sa nám podarí preraziť :)

A ešte jedna novinka - v piatok mi konečne došla zásielka, na ktorú som VEĽMI netrpezlivo čakala (baby potvrdia). Prišli mi vizitky (aj slovenské), letáky, plagát, magnetky, perá, kľúčenka a aj krásne tričká jogové (viď obrázok). tak som neskutočne nadšená!

Znovu cvičím s Garym

Včera som bola po dlhom čase opäť na hodine jogy môjho učiteľa Garyho. Bolo to na novom mieste (ktoré Google nejak zle ukázal na mape - ešteže ľudia okolo mňa vedia kde čo je) a cvičilo sa mi (na rozdiel od predchádzajúcich hodín) skvele! Miestnosť bola pekná, priestranná, bolo tam príjemne teplo a precvičovali sme zaujímavé cviky. Aj keď tie v stoji mi síce trochu podlomili kolená, zvládla som to a mojím úplným úspechom bolo urobiť v strede miestnosti - bez steny - stoj na hlave! Veľmi som so sebou spokojná, lebo doma sa síce steny neopieram, ale stále stojku robím (pre istotu) pri stene.

Som zistila, že som sa včera neflákala a všetko som cvičila poriadne, keďže mám takú svalovku, že sa neviem bez aukaniaani v posteli  prevrátiť na druhý bok ;) Ale to k tomu patri. Takže som sa znovu naučila pár nových vecí a teším sa na ďalší týždeň!

Oddnes mi funguje stranka :)

Dnes som sa celý deň pokúšala čo najlepšie vytvoriť moju novú stránku, je len po anglicky - zatiaľ. Je to ale celkom fér, lebo blog je len po slovensky :) Čo vy na to?


Ak má niekto nejaké dotazy, zlepšenia, alebo nájdete nebodaj chyby, dajte mi čo najrýchlejšie vedieť a hneď ich opravím!

Našla som Nintendo!!!! :D


Ani si neviete predstaviť, aká som rada! :) Chcela som ho hľadať v krabiciach nad skriňou, pri výmene letných šiat za zimné, ale stal sa zázrak a dnes som ho našla úplne inde :) V škatuli s elektronikou (ehm, celkom logické...)...

No, asi to všetko znie čudne a zrejme vážne nechápete spojitosť medzi mojím milovaným Nintendom a jogou :) Idem vás ešte trochu ponaťahovať?? :P Niektorí ľuďia budú vedieť hneď o čom hovorím/píšem. O jednej milej Tete. Áno, Teta v Nintende ma ako prvá učila ako sa robia všelijaké jogové cviky. Neveríte? Je to tak. Jogu som sa začala učiť z Nintenda. Nechodila som na nijaké jogové hodiny, nemala som asi dva roky, ako som začala cvičiť učiteľa z mäsa a kostí. Cvičila som si s Nintendom :)

Ako vidíte, všetko je pekne vypísané na obrazovke. Ako náročný je cvik, na čo je zameraný, sú tam aj tipy a rady, ako cvičiť cvik, keď ho nezvládame ako Teta (takéto tipy budú aj v mojej knihe :P). Sú tam oznašené aj svaly, ktoré sa precvišujú a aj pár viet o ásane.

  Táto jogová ´hra´ - veľmi náučná, nápomocná a môjmu srdcu tak blízka, sa volá Let´s Yoga (Poďme jogovať). Postavička dievčiny sa dá meniť, i oblečenie, podložka, ale aj pozadie. Všetky ásany sú neuveriteľne dobre vysvetlené, Teta sa dá aj otáčať, takže kto si nie je istý kde presne je ruka či noha, dá sa to rýchlo skontrolovať.

 Ako postupne prechádzate lekciami od najjednoduchších cvikov až po ťažšie, zvykáte si na záťaž pri cvikoch a aj čas sa pomaly predlžuje. Dokonca sa dajú vybrať rôzne zostavy, podľa toho, čo chcete precvičiť. Podľa mňa je toto najúžasnejšia a najužitočnejšia hra o joge akú som kedy videla a mala možnosť vyskúšať!

Dokonca aj dýchanie je pekne naznačené.
Vrelo odporúčam vyskúšať všetkým, ktorí vlastnia Nintendo!!! :)
